Covid cases across three Victoria College year groups

Wednesday 23 June 2021

Dozens of Victoria College children are learning from home, following cases of covid within three year groups.

Headmaster Alun Watkins told parents and guardians last night that the school was “working closely” with contact tracing and infection control teams to protect the school community.

“A number of boys in these year groups have been identified as direct contacts and these boys are currently in isolation and working from home, accessing our online learning provision,” Mr Watkins said.

His e-mail outlined that the school identifies a direct contact as students who have been closer than two metres of the individual who tested positive for 15 minutes or more during their contagious stage.

Mr Watkins added that, whilst he understands “this must be an unsettling and challenging time for our whole school community", boys who are not infected or deemed direct contacts are expected to be in school as normal.

The Government's school statistics page was last updated on Monday 21 June, and shows one case at Les Quennevais and another at Victoria College detected over the weekend.

When Express asked Government for the latest figures, they said they will be published later today.

Currently, there are 66 people officially recorded as having the virus in Jersey, and 946 people are isolating after being named as direct contacts.

The Government is due to make an announcement about the next steps in its covid-19 plan this afternoon in a press conference at 15:30.
