Cricket-lovers in Jersey have been assured that the sport will have a good innings this summer despite its CEO leaving the crease.
Jersey Cricket said its Chief Executive Officer Craig Meredith is stepping down this summer to pursue other interests.
His successor is yet to be decided, with Jersey Cricket saying any interim measures are being considered “in line with his final date of departure”.
Asked if Mr Meredith’s departure might disrupt the busy cricket season ahead, Jersey Cricket Chairman John Harris said: “The timing of these things is seldom ideal, but the Board of Jersey Cricket will ensure continuity and minimise any possible disruption which could arise through a combination of notice period and any other interim arrangements which could potentially be required should the need arise.”
Mr Meredith became Jersey Cricket’s CEO in July 2019 after working within the organisation as Sports Therapist and Team Manager following more than 20 years’ experience in different sporting roles.
Mr Harris said: “Craig has made a considerable contribution to the progress and development of cricket in Jersey over the past few years, having also had to deal with the unprecedented challenges posed by the covidpandemic.
“He has been part of the governance reforms that have enhanced the way the sport is overseen here and in pursuing its various international relationships and has brought fresh thinking in a number of areas, particularly in grass roots development and promotion of an agenda of expansion for our game.
“The Board thanks him for his passion and contribution to Jersey Cricket and wishes him every success in what he chooses to do next.”

Mr Meredith said: “While it is a big decision to step down from Jersey Cricket, this is the right time for me to move on and pursue other opportunities with the confidence that I am leaving Jersey Cricket in good hands and well positioned for the future.”
He said it had been a “privilege” to have been part of the leadership team at Jersey Cricket for the past three years.
Mr Harris said that fans of the sport in the island should be reassured that it is in a good place with record participation levels in the domestic game, significant investment in facilities, particularly at Grainville as Jersey Cricket pursue the ‘Home of Jersey Cricket’ concept, and success on the pitch, including the recent inter-insulars.
The senior men will be travelling to Nambia next month to compete in a tri-series T20 against the hosts and the United States.
They will then travel on to Zimbabwe to take part in a qualifier for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup against Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Uganda, the US and the hosts.
Two of these sides will qualify for a place at the World Cup itself, which will be held in Australia in October and November.
