A charity dedicated to helping individuals with dementia and their families is calling out for runners to take part in the London Marathon to help them.
Dementia Jersey has three spaces for the iconic event taking place on 3 October 2021, and wants to hear from individuals of all backgrounds – whether experienced runners or first-timers.
In return for competing, they ask for a commitment to raise a minimum of £2,000 to help the charity.
The candidates selected to take part in the race will be announced on 4 June, giving them four months to train and fundraise.
That money will help the charity in a number of ways, ranging from contributing to the the salary of its Dementia Advisors, who help islanders with support and advice throughout their journey living with the disease or as a carer, or contributing to the cost of our education sessions.
“Dementia Jersey was simply a life- line during the difficult time of diagnosis,” Kate, a client of the charity said. “The caring team reached out a hand of friendship and support and I gained vital knowledge of dementia through their excellent courses and support groups. This learning has enabled me to grow in confidence and cope with the demanding role of carer but has also shown me that my needs are important too”.
