Could you give the devil his dream home?

Thursday 26 November 2020

Though most islanders will be waiting for a visit from Santa Claus this Christmas, one home is being sought to accommodate Satan's claws instead.

That’s because the Priory Inn at Devil’s Hole are giving away their replica statue of the infamous titular Devil, completely free of charge.

Speaking to Express, Randalls' Managing Director, Gavin Reid, said that the pub chain was giving the 20 foot statue away as they were moving from their warehouse on Clare Street, and didn’t want to have to break it up or throw it away.

“There might be somebody who fancies it in their back garden or at their organisation,” he explained. “We were contemplating putting it in one of our pubs, but we decided it might not fit with our 'family friendly' image!”

The demon - affectionately called ‘Derek’ - was created as a fibreglass backup when the latest iteration of the Devil was placed at the Priory. However, for the last 10 years, he has been gathering dust in the Randalls warehouse.

Pictured: Derek, unlike his brother at the Priory, is still on the lookout for a place to call his own.

Both he and his ‘brother’ devil located by the pond at the Priory Inn, are in turn replicas of the original devil, which was crafted in 1851 after a ship’s figurehead washed up in the St. Mary cave.

Gavin has called on any islanders who may have sympathy for the Devil to get in contact with him, saying that “we just want him to go to a good home.”
