Eat lunch while keeping your children safe online

Tuesday 06 February 2018

Digital experts, internet providers and Jersey Police have teamed up to help teach islanders how to keep children safe online.

Whether you're tech savvy or a digital dinosaur - parents, teachers and carers will be discovering the best ways to reduce online risks to young people over lunch today

To mark ‘Safe Internet Day’ Jersey Police, Digital Jersey and Airtel Vodafone are holding a workshop to teach various online safeguards, including how to install parental controls and restrictions, on mobile devices and apps.

It's hoped the session - which is being held at the Digital Jersey Hub in Grenville Street between 1pm and 2pm - will help prevent children and adults from falling victim to cyber-attacks, which is a concern highlighted within the 2016 Jersey Opinions and Lifestyle survey.

The workshop schedule is as follows:

  • 1pm arrival, refreshments and light lunch.
  • 1.15pm Introduction on 'Safer Internet Day' and simple mobile safety from Peter Zunino, Head of Marketing at Airtel-Vodafone.
  • 1.20pm Internet Safety for children & young adults; Chris Ingham, Crime Reduction Officer from Community Policing Team.
  • 1.30pm - 1.45pm Q&A and one-to-one device safety with Airtel-Vodafone team. Bring your device along & let us help you!
  • 2pm Finish

Airtel-Vodafone’s Head of Marketing, Peter Zunino, said: ‘Parents can often feel daunted by the pace of change in technology, particularly as mobile is well stablished as the platform of choice for accessing the internet. As a responsible mobile provider we have long taken the lead in this area through initiatives such as our free online filtering system Airtel - Vodafone Protect, and educational resources through our partners Vodafone. We’re delighted to be partnering the States of Jersey Police and Digital Jersey to offer practical advice to stay safe online when using mobile devices.’
