Editor behind controversial Kardashian cover to judge Jersey Style Awards

Tuesday 13 March 2018

The New York magazine editor responsible for a nude photo shoot of Kim Kardashian that infamously “broke the internet” is to judge the 2018 edition of the Jersey Style Awards.

Paper Magazine’s Mickey Boardman – the man who made the decision on the controversial cover, which sparked commentary and memes that spread like wildfire across social media – will fly to Jersey to decide on the island’s top tastemakers, who will be crowned on 28 June.

He’ll be joined on a panel by returning judges, former Telegraph fashion director Hilary Alexander OBE and Maurice Mullen, the Evening Standard and ES Magazine’s Head of Luxury.

Together, they will decide the winners of categories spanning arts, lifestyle, tourism, fashion and philanthropy.

The brainchild of retail guru Dr Tessa Hartmann CBE, last year’s Style Awards were the first to ever take place in Jersey in a bid to put the island on the global fashion map.

Attendees dined alongside international fashion designers, and were treated to an impromptu acapella performance of ‘Diamonds are Forever’ by Dame Shirley Bassey, who was inaugurated into the ‘Style Hall of Fame’, and an after party show from rapper Professor Green.

Dr Hartmann has promised an equally sparkling ceremony this year, with the addition of two new awards: ‘Wine List of the Year’ and ‘Island Bar of the Year’. She’s now calling for entries, which must be uploaded to the website by 13 April.

She commented: “We’re so excited for this year’s event and honoured to have such a great line up of global style figures as judges. It’s our goal to surpass the number of entries we had in 2017 so we're calling for all the Jersey businesses, creatives, brands and tastemakers to join Jerseys most stylish conversation and get the recognition they deserve.

“A win at these awards is regarded as a benchmark of success and can have incredible awareness implications for the nominees. We’re endeavouring to build a legacy with these awards and the 2017 winners are a shining example of that. I have no doubt that 2018 will be even better!”
