Plans approved for Elephant Park upgrade

Saturday 15 April 2023

Proposals to update "tired" facilities at the Elephant Park in St. Brelade have been unanimously approved by the Planning Committee.

They include the refurbishment of the existing toilet facilities, creation of a canopy, and an accessible path from the car park to the toilets.

Planning officer, Barry James said the proposals were a "welcome upgrade", adding that the new path would cater to the needs of islanders with disabilities.

Recommending that the scheme be approved, Mr James said that it was crucial to make significant improvements, and that the toilet upgrade would bring them up to standard with disability law.

St. Ouen Constable, Richard Honeycombe said: "The whole area is growing tired; I will go with the officer’s recommendation [to approve]."

Planning Committee chair and Trinity Constable, Philip Le Sueur added: "The existing facilities are in desperate need of refurbishment."

The new canopy would provide an additional seating area for park users, according to the planning application.

Also present at yesterday’s meeting were Deputies Andy Howell, Mary Le Hegarat, Tom Cole, and Alex Curtis.
