A local concert band is set to perform a repertoire of music ranging from wartime favourites to new arrangements to mark Winston Churchill's famous liberation radio broadcast.
La Ronde Concert Band is putting on two days of concerts to celebrate the occasion with tunes including soldiers' songs The Dambusters, The White Cliffs of Dover, and We Will Meet Again.
La Ronde will also perform a new arrangement of Elizabeth Remembered, a charity single which was composed in remembrance of Queen Elizabeth II.
The performance will mark the famous radio broadcast in which Winston Churchill announced that "our dear Channel Islands are also to be freed today".
According to the band, these words "still bring tears to the eyes of many islanders who experienced the occupation by the Nazi forces, to those who were evacuated and to those who served in the armed forces during WW2".
La Ronde, which is made up of about 20 woodwind players, 14 brass players and a percussionist, has been performing for over 40 years and is now conducted by Charlotte Cooper – who last year composed a new tune for young musicians at Haute Vallée School.
Some students, who had been learning their instruments for less than a year, joined the band for its 41st anniversary celebrations.
The band is a registered charity and concerts are free, but donations are accepted.
La Ronde are set to play on Wednesday 8 May at Howard Davis Park from 19:30, and on Thursday 9 May to support the Liberation Day celebrations on Liberation Square from 08:45.
