End of the road for pay cards?

Thursday 19 February 2015

The days of scratching away the hours could be over and drivers could be binning their paycards by the end of the summer.

The States are looking at introducing new ways of paying for parking both in car parks and on the roads.

At the moment there’s no choice other than the paycard system or the one introduced in Sand Street car park just over two years ago that recognises your number plate. Transport and Technical Services are now changing the law so that other companies can come in and tender for the contract for a new parking payment system.

TTS Minister Deputy Eddie Noel said: “I am keen to introduce a flexible parking payment system that will provide customers with a more versatile method of use as soon as possible. I hope that we will start introducing such a system firstly into our car parks and then look to extending it to on-street.”
