Expect traffic delays in St Lawrence and St Helier

Monday 18 July 2016

School traffic might have come to a stop but there will be weeks of disruption on the roads in St Lawrence this Summer and delays if you're heading into town via First Tower.

The drilling is due to start today on a big stretch of La Grande Route de Saint-Laurent from Mont Cambrai that might not be finished until after the schools go back in September.

The work is being done in phases and the road will be closed during working hours from 9.15 am until 6 pm.

It'll be a long stretch for those who run the pub, the shop, the B&B, the petrol station and the antiques shop, who have already expressed concerns they'll be short on customers this Summer but the Department for Infrastructure say they'll all be staying open for business and can be accessed by the diversions via La Grande Route de St Jean and St Peter's Valley.

The Route 7 bus will be diverted to La Grande Route de St Jean and a shuttle bus will be running between Carrefour Selous and Mont Felard via the diversions which will include Waterworks Valley during some phases.

The drilling will stop for the day on Thursday 11 August for Battle of Flowers.

Meanwhile the traffic lights at First Tower are being replaced and DFI say drivers should allow extra time for their journeys as there are likely to bed delays all week.

The new brighter and more energy efficient lights should be up and running when the work finishes on Friday.
