Family inspires fund-racing Fraser boys

Saturday 08 June 2019

Two brothers, whose grandmother and father's nephew were touched by cancer, will today use their family as inspiration as they race to raise money for charity.

Charlie and Sam Fraser will be joining hundreds of children of all abilities aged between six and 13 running the Jersey Kids Triathlon between 12:00 and 17:00 today at Les Quennevais.

The race will see all competitors run in aid of Bloodwise, a charity that aims to raise money for research into blood cancers.

As Bloodwise Jersey is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, it is hoping to raise £12,000 for 2019, which would bring the total amount raised to £60,000.

The Fraser boys, who have taken part in the triathlon every year, will be working hard to help the charity reach that target.

"Their motivation comes from the heart and is very close to all of their family. Their Grandmother had lymphoma, twice, and their Dad’s nephew had leukaemia. Therefore the boys have had a close connection to the effects these cancers have on individuals and their families," race organisers explained.

"...The boys found a way to honour their family, through their love of sport, they are always looking forward to taking part."

For those taking part in the race, there are plenty of prizes up for grabs.

The top fundraisers will receive a £100 gift voucher donated by Big Maggy’s Coffee and Bike Shop, and there are plenty more available. Every child that raises over £50 will be entered into a random draw with prizes, including free entry to the Junior Triathlon and the Jersey Marathon 3K fun run.
