Former Deputy to stand for Liberal Conservatives in St. Helier South

A former St. Brelade Deputy is standing for election next month as a member of the Jersey Liberal Conservatives.

Angela Jeune represented the parish’s No. 1 district from 2008 until 2011 and served as an Assistant Minister for Social Security.

She will be standing as a candidate for the party, which recently formed a coalition with the Progress Party, in the new St. Helier South district.

Born in the island and educated in New Zealand, Mrs Jeune worked as a dual-registered nurse, mostly in London NHS teaching hospitals, in both general and psychiatric services at senior management levels, and in Health Informatics at NHS Regional level.

She returned to the island in 1993, when she took up a post as Assistant Director, Information Services in the Health Department.

She said: “The JLC ‘We’re listening’ campaign appealed to me and having read the mini-manifesto, I found that the party was the most aligned to my own thinking.”

Party leader Sir Philip Bailhache said: “Angela is committed to the old Jersey values of straightforwardness and being prudent and careful with money. If elected, she will help to bring spending under control. I am sure that she will get great support in St Helier South.”
