A States Member's call for Jersey to back a permanent ceasefire in Gaza will be debated at the end of this month, it has been confirmed.
Deputy Montfort Tadier addressed the States Assembly yesterday regarding his proposition, which was lodged on 29 January.
He said he did not intend asking Members to lower the usual minimum interval of two weeks between an item being submitted and the subsequent debate.
Deputy Tadier said that he felt the issue was an urgent one, with thousands of people being killed, and therefore was of sufficient public interest to be debated sooner, but that "on balance" he considered it was right to allow Members to consider the issue fully ahead of the debate, which will take place on 27 February.
