Intertrust gives away 200 cycle helmets

Saturday 06 May 2017

Intertrust is giving away 200 cycle helmets today in partnership with local charity Headway, in support of Road Safety Week.

Since 2014 it has been the law in Jersey for all children under the age of 13 to wear a helmet when cycling on the island’s roads.

Whilst Global Road Safety week does not start until 8 May, Intertrust will be marking the start of Road Safety Week with Headway Jersey today [Saturday 6 May] in Brook Street, St Helier.

Philip Sturgess, Chairman of Headway Jersey, said: “We’re excited to be working alongside Intertrust to support Road Safety Week. Brain injuries caused by accidents on the roads can be very severe so making sure you wear a helmet, are aware of what is happening around you and know your highway code is extremely important and can dramatically reduce the risk of injury.”

The event will run from 08:30 to 1pm and 100 helmets will be given away all morning.

Representatives from the States of Jersey Police are also supporting the event and Headway Jersey will be on hand to provide safety advice and there will also be a prize draw, with the chance to win a £300 gift voucher to spend at The Cycle Centre Jersey.

In addition to being given out to the public, helmets are also being donated to Headway Jersey and the States of Jersey Police for use in their Bikeability courses and also to the children of Intertrust employees.

Simon Mackenzie, Managing Director of Intertrust in Jersey, said: “Lots of people and groups in Jersey, including Headway and the Jersey Police, work extremely hard to raise awareness of road safety and we’re pleased we can help by donating cycle helmets to help keep Jersey's young people safe on the roads."

“As a business with more than 400 employees in Jersey, we take our commitment to the community very seriously and it’s great to be able to work with various community groups on this initiative. Many thanks to The Cycle Centre Jersey for kindly donating the voucher that will be raffled at our event on Saturday 6 May.”
