'Reasons' for local band's final gig

Wednesday 27 July 2016

Local band Any Given Sunday are preparing to sign off in style and will be sharing a stage this weekend with R&B legends Soul II Soul.

The band are calling it a day after almost seven years together and will be one of 11 local acts on the bill at the Reasons Festival in Coronation Park on Saturday.

The band who've been performing Hiphop, Funk and R&B together at gigs across the Island and in Guernsey and played to a crowd of 6,000 at the Big Gig three years ago say it's the last chance to see them perform live before they take an indefinite hiatus to do other things.

Guitarist Matt McManus said: “We knew this Summer was going to be our last opportunity to play gigs together and Reasons was the perfect occasion we’re playing the main stage, it’s a fantastic line up.

“We’ve done a lot with Rocksteady Promotions in the past, Ben Newman in particular, and they always put on great events.

“We’re really looking forward to it, it’s a great new festival and hopefully it will go from strength to strength.

"We’ll be signing off on Saturday. It’s a good way to go out."

Around 2,000 people packed Millbrook for the Festival's debut last year and Festival Organisers Ben Newman and John O'Connel are confident they've got some great local acts for this year's big gig.

They said: “It is no secret that Jersey is an Island bubbling with talent and creativity, so plucking the right local DJs and artists to appear at the event alongside those at the absolute top of their musical game is never a straight forward task.

“The 11 acts we have appearing across all of the stages this year are representative of some of the best in their respective genres in the Island, and we truly believe each would stand up and perform confidently against any international line up.”

Mo'Matic, real name Colin Moore will be performing on the Rocksteady Selector Stage alongside Mike Joyce of The Smiths and Jimi Goodwin of The Doves and has a new single release coming out on Friday.

Pete De Momme & Carl Scott are the founders of electronic music collective Clique and have been responsible for a plethora of parties celebrating underground house and techno for over a decade. Their brand Clique is hosting this year’s Electronic Stage which sees them perform alongside Detroit’s techno legend Stacey Pullen and Glaswegian heroes Slam.

DJ Spim (Simon Taylor), is the undisputed pied piper of Drum & Bass in the Island. Simon hosts his own Subfactory Radio Show, which is broadcast from Jersey to an international audience.

Jagerverb (Liam Mitchel) is a Jersey born Berlin based DJ and producer of electronic music who is coming back for a second year as is Just Muz (Christian Foley), a poet, lyricist and spoken word artist whose combination of spoken word and rap, organisers say, blew more than a few people away last year. This time around he'll be performing with a full band on the main stage.

You can also catch local favourites - Carl McConnell, Danny Booth, Fundi and All Mod Cons – four acts Ben Newman and John O'Connel describe as having “impeccable music taste.”
