One of Jersey’s most senior civil servants is stepping down “for personal reasons” after less than two years in the role.
Group Director of Policy Dr Megan Mathias will be officially leaving Government next week after working her notice period.
She joined the Government in January 2019 – one of six new recruits brought on board as part of Chief Executive Charlie Parker’s ‘OneGov’ reforms.
During her time in the role, Dr Mathias worked in the newly-formed Strategic, Policy, Performance and Population Department.

The role saw her work on policy across various parts of Government, but most recently focusing on covid restrictions and risk guidance.
Prior to coming to Jersey, her career spanned senior roles at Serco, the Welsh Government, the New Zealand Government, the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government and the Wales Centre for Public Policy.
Express understands that Dr Mathias is now returning to Wales.
Ahead of her departure, she expressed her gratitude to colleagues on Twitter and praised Jersey’s civil service policy community as one that “punches massively above its weight.”
I just read through my leaving card again from @GovJersey colleagues... Thank you all so much for your kindness, for the incredible work we did together, and for being a #civilservice #policy community that punches massively above its weight. @TomWalkerJersey

Several colleagues said that they would be sorry to see her go.
A Government spokesperson commented: “Dr Megan Mathias was recruited in January 2019 into the permanent position of Group Director – Policy.
“Dr Mathias has resigned for personal reasons and is due to leave the Government of Jersey on 11 September after working her three months’ notice period.
“A process is currently underway to recruit into this position which is being overseen by the Jersey Appointment Commission.”
