"He would have made a good dad" says alleged child sex victim

Tuesday 01 November 2016

An alleged child sex victim has told the jury that the 85-year-old man he's accused of abusing him "would have made a good dad."

Bryan John Le Brocq is charged with eight counts of sexual assault on the alleged victim, who was 13 when it is claimed the abuse started. He denies all the charges.

This morning the Jury were shown a copy of a card the man, who is now 30-years-old, sent to Mr Le Brocq on Father's Day, a card he sent as an adult in which he thanked him for all his support, signing off "With all my love."

Under cross-examination, Defending Advocate Heidi Heath said: "That's not the sentiments of somebody who has been sexually abused."

Yesterday the alleged victim told the jury he would go to Middlewood Farm in St Peter about four or five times a week to look after his chickens and was offered work cleaning out Mr Le Brocq's pigs. He claims the abuse started in Mr Le Brocq's kitchen, about six months later, in early 2000.

He claims he was abused several times before he moved in to live with Mr Le Brocq on his farm and that he continued to sexually assault him on a weekly, or fortnightly basis after that.

When Advocate Heath suggested the complainant had wanted Mr Le Brocq to adopt him, he replied: "No, I didn't. I said he would have made a good dad."

He went on to say: "As you can imagine he's been a major part of my life for quite a long time. I did care about Bryan, I had a lot of affection for him.

He said he couldn't recall exactly when he wrote the card but thought it was when he was still living at Le Brocq's farm.

Advocate Heath wanted to know why he had sent the card when his own biological father is still alive. He replied that he sent cards to lots of people, including his step-mum.

He said: "We are all brothers and sisters. After the amount of time I spent with Bryan. He did care about me. He put a roof over my head. He let me keep all my animals there.

"Bryan was very affectionate, and made me feel wanted. I think this supports that I really did care about Bryan."

The trial at the Royal Court continues.
