Big plans to make a house a home at Le Squez

Local contractors are being invited to tender for the job to create more affordable housing at Le Squez, which the Housing Minister says will make the St Clement estate a nicer place to live.

Work is due to start in October to build 16 four bedroom homes, four two bedroom houses and a purpose built disabled unit with three bedrooms for Andium Homes – the new private housing company now looking after all the states owned social housing assets.

The plan is for another 147 new affordable homes to be built afterwards along with a new five-bedroom respite home that the Health department will lease under a long-term tenancy agreement with Andium Homes.

Last December the States agreed to borrow £250 million to invest in affordable housing projects in the Island. £207 million of it has been ring fenced for Andium Homes who want to make sure all of its properties meet the Decent Homes Standard within the next decade and create stronger community living.

Housing Minister Deputy Andrew Green said: “The regeneration programme at Le Squez is a very exciting project. It is about more than just delivering new homes: it is also important to note that we are making some significant social and environmental improvements that will make the estate a much nicer place to live.”

Andium Homes has fully refurbished La Collette high-rise and has started work to improve 32 homes in De Quetteville Court high-rise. It’s also working on doing up 20 homes at Nicolle close and 39 at Hampshire Gardens and is building 44 new homes at Lesquende.
