WATCH: Hospital staff hit the treadmill for Children in Need

Friday 17 November 2023

From bake-offs to dress-down days... Children In Need Day saw islanders taking part in all manner of fundraisers today, with staff at the hospital taking on a treadmill challenge to raise money for the cause.

As well as trying to rack up an impressive number of steps on the equipment in the hospital's foyer, 'Team Health and Community Services', who were all dressed in distinctive Pudsey Bear t-shirts and ears, also held a cake sale.

Last year, the team raised £2,000 for Children In Need, and their aim was to surpass that amount this year.

The group even managed to get other islanders involved in their efforts – one as young as eight.

Schools across the island also participated in the initiative, organising spotty-themed dress-down days to raise money.

This included Jersey College Prep, St Martin's School, Springfield School, and Michael's Preparatory School.

Jersey College Prep also hosted colouring competitions and a raffle, while La Moye School arranged fundraising stalls, and St Saviour's School raised more than £400.

KPMG took a unique approach this year by organizing a Nintendo video game tournament in Guernsey for Smash Bros enthusiasts, while the Jersey office hosted a traditional cake sale.

Since its launch in 1980, the annual Children In Need fundraiser has raised over £1 billion.

The funds raised in the 2023 Appeal will support disadvantaged children and young people, including those living in poverty, families in crisis, children experiencing sadness and loneliness, social injustice, and the need for a safe and secure environment.

Each day is marked with a special TV show, with a number of special guests and spin-offs – tonight, it will air on BBC1 at 19:00.
