Hoedown on hunt for new sponsor

Tuesday 05 January 2016

It’s a Wild West shindig that attracts thousands and last year raised a whopping £34,000 for Islanders living with brain injuries but the Halkett Hoedown won’t be back in town in 2016.

Organisers say the big street party in aid of Headway Jersey is taking a break this year while they find a big sponsor for the next one, next year.

The Hoedown is organised by Bean Around the World’s David Stokes together with Louise Stirling from Headway and Niall Mac of Stoked Music, who say they need a major sponsor to help keep the family friendly event open to the public and to pay for production costs to help it really grow.

They staged last year's Hoedown during the August bank holiday which saw more than 2,000 music fans enjoy live music on the two stages from local favourites Frankie Davies, Rick Jones, Joe Young & The Bandits, Sula and The Blind Drivers to name just a few and the sounds of Country, Americana, Folk and Blues carried on into the night.

Legendary "whispering" Bob Harris of the Old Grey Whistle Test sent over the WBBC Under the Apple Tree posse, including Miles Myerscough-Harris, to film acoustic sessions with many of the local artists who performed that were then posted on the WBBCOfficial You Tube channel, seen by people all over the world.

Anyone wishing to help support the event financially next year is urged to contact the organizers at info@halketthoedown.com.
