Hundreds billed to take part in annual duck race

Thursday 17 April 2014

The competitors have been counted and are ready to give Islanders a quacking good time at this weekend’s Operation Goodwill Duck Race.

Hundreds of yellow plastic ducks will hit the water on Easter Saturday racing downstream at Sandybrook in St Lawrence to raise money for the Police charity.

For almost 50 years police officers and staff have been fundraising for good causes and local charities. This year the race proceeds will go to Holidays for Heroes Jersey – the charity which gives injured soldiers and their families a week’s break in the Island.

Head of the Criminal Justice Department Dr Helen Miles said: “Every year the duck race is a great, fun event with lots of families coming down to take part.

“We hope this year will be just as successful as previous years and we will raise lots of money for two very important causes.”

Tickets to sponsor a duck are now on sale for £2 at Police Headquarters, the Autism Jersey shop in the Parade and at the Jersey Centre for Autism in Britannia place.

And with two return tickets to Paris, a kindle fire and an overnight stay and dinner at the Hotel de France up for grabs, you’d be quackers not to take part!

The race starts at 2.30pm.
