Industrial action in St Malo leaves over 2,000 without a ferry

Condor Ferries' sailings to St Malo have been cancelled today due to industrial action by dock workers in St Malo Port, affecting between 2,000 and 3,000 passengers the ferry operator has said.

Condor's CEO Paul Luxon has said the company is in dialogue with the local airlines to explore whether they are able to provide charters to Dinard Airport for passengers should they wish to use them.

Mr Luxon said the disruption caused was very frustrating and inconvenient for passengers but emphasised teams were working to contact all affected to offer alternative arrangements.

He said: "We are incredibly disappointed that through the actions of others our services are being cancelled so we have called in additional resources in our customer services’ department to ensure we speak to everyone and provide assistance with changing their travel plans."

The Rapide was berthed in Jersey on Friday night and passengers who were due to travel from Guernsey through to St Malo had to be transported back. Mr Luxon explained: "Our intention by using Rapide is that all Guernsey and Jersey departing passengers are able to return to their homes this evening."
