Infrastructure Minister aims for Constable role

Thursday 05 May 2022

A St. Saviour Deputy is seeking a return to the States Assembly – but this time stepping into the shoes of a much-loved Constable.

Kevin Lewis is currently the Minister for Infrastructure and is known for having previously run the Cine de France and Jersey Film Festival.

Deputy Lewis was first elected in 2005, and re-elected in 2008, 2011 and 2014.

After 17 years serving the parish as a Deputy, he said in a short statement released last night that he had been asked to stand for the role of Connétable after Sadie Le Sueur-Rennard announced that she would not be running again, before she suddenly passed away last month.

Among his key achievements as Minister, Deputy Lewis noted that he had "done much to implement the safer routes to schools policy."

As a parish representative, meanwhile, he noted that he had successfully brought proposals to prevent overdevelopment in the Rue des Pres and Five Oaks areas during the Island Plan debate.

While the much-loved Constable Le Sueur-Rennard passed away outside of the election nominations window, it was decided that a by-election should not be held, with parish officials taking over her duties until a longer-term successor is decided in the June election.

Her funeral was held on Tuesday.
