Investor narrowly avoids losing “considerable sum” to scam firm

Tuesday 06 July 2021

A UK resident nearly parted with a “considerable sum” of cash after scammers pretended to be a real Jersey investment firm.

According to the financial regulator, Belvedere Services Limited has been the subject of a spoof – putting potential investors in danger.

“We are warning the public about a scam business claiming to be a trading name of the legitimate Jersey company, Belvedere Services Limited. A UK resident brought the scam to our attention after nearly parting with a considerable sum of money,” the JFSC warned.

It is claiming to operate from Liberation Station and to have a registered office at the Esplanade.

“It has a website, www.belvedere-trade.com, and uses the email addresses; accounts@belvedere-trade.com, info@belvedere-trade.com, uk@belvedere-trade.com, jr@belvedere-trade.com and sg@belvedere-trade.com,” the JFSC added.

“We can confirm that the scam business is not authorised to conduct investment business in the island.”

Anyone who has been contacted by the business or had dealings with it is now being asked to contact the JFSC’s Enforcement Team.

It’s not the only scam circulating recently.

This week, Jersey Post warned about scam ‘Euro Lotto Letters’ being sent in the post to islanders.

Addressed from Paseo de la Castellana in Madrid, the letter informs the recipient that they have won €1.25m.

“We are removing these letters from circulation, however, a small number may slip through and be delivered, so please be vigilant. Do not respond or provide any personal information,” Jersey Post said.
