Island welcomes first high fashion shoot

Wednesday 03 September 2014

A Dutch magazine has become the first high fashion publication to choose Jersey as a location for a fashion shoot.

Elle Netherlands sent a fashion team to the Island in early June to shoot a feature for their October edition.

The group of six included models and hair and make up artists, a photographer and a journalist. They were supported by Jersey Tourism, who organised accommodation for them at the Monterey Hotel, St Helier.

Simon Le Huray, Marketing Manager at Jersey Tourism, said: “We’ve had a few commercial fashion shoots on the island before but they are generally below the radar. We were originally targeting Elle’s travel section but when the fashion team heard about it they thought Jersey would be a great place for a fashion shoot too.”

During their visit Elle Netherlands used locations around the coast, including Bellecroute, St Aubin’s, Corbière and Rozel. Glorious images of places they visited have already appeared on social media tagged #ElleOnTour and #TeamJersey. Instagram pictures of models posing on the rocks at Beauport beach while a photographer wades out in the see to get the best angle have the envy-inducing caption, "Another day in the office".

Elle Magazine has a circulation of over 102,000 with 150,000 followers on Facebook, 8,700 on Instagram and 38,000 on Twitter.

At the moment out of 325,000 tourists a year, only 2,500 come from the Netherlands. Jersey Tourism has recently taken on a PR firm in Amsterdam to generate more coverage of the island for this market.

Simon added: “Traditionally the Benelux countries find Jersey very attractive for its weather, scenery and food. However, the number of visitors coming from the Netherlands is still very small.”

Jersey Tourism also expect a food article to appear in Elle Eten, the food-oriented sister magazine to Elle Netherlands. Elle Eten has over 10,000 facebook followers and 10,000 Twitter followers.

Blue Islands provided the magazine with flights on their direct service from Amsterdam.

The article will appear in the October edition of Elle out in Holland next month and will contain a combined reader offer of 20% discount on flights with Blue Islands and accommodation at Grand Jersey.
