Runners hit the streets for Hospice

Islanders can show their support for Jersey Hospice Care by taking part in the 13th Jayson Lee memorial run tomorrow.

The run, which is organised by Brenton Lee in memory of his brother, will take place on Sunday 15 August, starting at 09:00 from FB fields, St. Clement where Jayson played his last football match.

The route carries on along the coast, and passes St. Clement's church, then Le Rocquier where Jayson went to school and finishes back at FB fields.

The 10k run raises money for Jersey Hospice Care.

Brenton Lee shares explained: “The event came about as I wanted to do something in memory of my brother. Jayson was a keen athlete and was always encouraging everyone to have a go and try something new.

"This 10k relatively flat run is achievable and we encourage all standards to come along, join us in a sociable atmosphere and receive a medal and a friendly smile at the finish. 13 years on, the Run is a firm fixture in the Jersey running calendar and that is down to the amazing support of everyone who comes and supports us to help raise money for Jersey Hospice Care.”

Runners can sign up for the event online here. It costs £12.50 per participant. There will be trophies for the first ten people to finish the race, and the police provide the trophy for the overall winner. Everyone will be awarded with a medal and a t-shirt.

Marina Brockbank, Community Event’s Co-Ordinator at Jersey Hospice Care, said: “Thank you to the Lee family for putting on the event in memory of Jayson for Jersey Hospice Care once again. It’s a really popular event within the running community, but also attracts lots of ‘non-runners’ who want to remember Jayson and support his chosen charity.”
