Jersey takes the Chinese out to lunch

Jersey firms in the finance and postal sectors are taking part in a major conference for Chinese businesses in London today.

The China-Britain Business Council’s (CBBC) China Business Conference 2014, which is due to take place at the QEII Conference Centre, will be attended by Assistant Economic Development Minister James Baker along with representatives of Jersey Finance, Jersey Post, Indigo Lighthouse, First Names Group and Professional Fulfilment Services.

The States agency promoting the Island to investors and companies – Locate Jersey – is sponsoring a lunch at the event, which is being attended by Liu Xiaoming, the Chinese Ambassador to the UK.

Deputy Baker said that tapping into the enormous and booming markets in China was a long-term objective for Jersey.

He said: “It is extremely important that we continue to build positive relationships in such a rapidly growing market, and our involvement in the China Business Conference will give us an excellent opportunity to explain to London-based business leaders, Jersey’s role as a gateway to European markets.

“The extensive experience of Jersey firms operating in markets across the world means that Jersey is well placed to support both the raft of Chinese firms seeking to expand globally and the UK’s efforts in building strong links with China.”

Locate Jersey has been targeting China in recent months, and has held events in Hong Kong and Shenzen as well as Jersey in the last year.
