A local firefighter is training for a 550km cycle from London all the way to Paris to raise money for a charity which supports others in his profession who are dealing with life-changing injuries or other “unexpected curve balls” in life.

After months of preparation, including taking part in the recent 100km 'Mac100' challenge with Macmillan Jersey, Station Commander Ryan Hall will be making his way to London on Monday 4 September.

He'll then set off two days later, firstly cycling to Dover, and then Dunkirk, followed by three more days cycling; from Dunkirk to Cambrai, Cambrai to Soissons before finally arriving in Paris.

He is aiming to raise £2,000 for The Firefighters Charity.

“The charity provides a lifetime of crucial support to the fire and rescue service community, whether that is dealing with a life-changing injury, illness, or an unexpected curve ball thrown up by life,” Mr Hall explained on his JustGiving fundraising page.

Help offered by the charity includes mental and physical health support, nursing services, assistance navigating retirement, and support for families.

“Your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate a lot or a little. Anything helps. Thank you for your support,” he said.

Before even setting off, the Station Commander has secured the backing of 30 supporters, raising nearly £700.
