Saturday 02 December 2017

Jersey Sport has appointed three non-executive directors to its board, all with business experience and a passion for sport.

Sarah Madel, Mark Wanless and Ed Daubeney will work alongside chairman Phil Austin and existing directors Jean Cross, Steve Law and Tony Taylor.

Sarah Madel is a marketing and business development professional with her own international marketing consultancy. An international journalist by trade - she has worked for the Daily Mail Group - she is a keen basketball player and has represented Jersey on many occasions.

Commenting on her appointment she said: “I’m delighted to join Jersey Sport and play an active role in helping to champion sport for everyone in the community. Being active has so many benefits for all age groups and the team at Jersey Sport have participation at the heart of their principles and approach. I look forward to working hard to give sport a stronger voice in Jersey.”

An active triathlete and chartered accountant, Mark Wanless will chair the Jersey Sport Audit and Risk Committee and will report to the board on finance and risk matters. He has participated in a number of team and individual sports over the years and competed in triathlons in Jersey and outside the island across a range of distances.

He said: “Jersey has an incredible sporting culture and natural environment, now Jersey Sport has the opportunity to build upon that and make a fantastic contribution to sport and active living throughout all parts of the island’s population. I am excited to be able to combine my educational background, professional skills and love for sport to play my part in that journey.”

Ed Daubeney is the managing director of Envestors CI and raises monies for ‘high growth’ companies. He has sat on other boards, including the Liberation Group, JACS where he acted as deputy chairman and the Jersey Employment Trust where he was chairman, and is currently the deputy chairman of the Polygon Group Limited.

Mr Daubeney played many sports but hockey is his main passion and he even played National League hockey in England. He was previously the president of Jersey Hockey and captain of the Jersey Hockey Club.

He explained: "Sport has given me so much over the years that it is very exciting to now be involved with Jersey Sport. I believe that the organisation will effectively promote and develop active lifestyles and this will be hugely beneficial at all levels of our community.”
