Jersey Swimarathon is featured on one of the six stamps that were released to mark the 100th anniversary of the Lions Club.

The celebratory stamps portray some of the projects supported by the global organisation.

Designed by So Design Consultants, they depict: fundraising through the Jersey Swimarathon, treating eye disease and recycling glasses, worldwide disaster relief, tackling environmental issues, hearing tests and recycled hearing aids and holidays for people with disabilities. Worldwide disaster relief is also depicted on the Miniature Sheet that accompanies the six stamps.

Formed on 7 June 1917, Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organisation, with 1.4 million members throughout more than 46,000 clubs. Its members support good causes around the world, serving people in need through a variety of projects from treating eye disease to tackling environmental issues.

Chris Elligott, Philatelic Production Coordinator at Jersey Post, said: “The Jersey branch of the organisation has established itself as one of the most successful fundraisers in Britain with its annual event, the Lions Club of Jersey Swimarathon. Each year this popular event raises a considerable sum for local charities and, to us, it was the obvious choice to appear on the 49p Local Letter stamp. The remaining stamps and the Miniature Sheet represent other significant projects supported by the organisation.”

Heather Jeavons, the Chairman of Council for the Lions of the British Isles and Ireland, commented: “I am so grateful to Jersey Post for their issue of these lovely stamps in celebration of our Centennial. The images pick up the wide variety of the activities of Lions Clubs, and show that being a Lion is a way to serve the community while having fun and fellowship with your fellow members. The Lions Club of Jersey is a jewel in our crown, and Lions members in Jersey embody the core values of selfless service for the last 100 years which we are celebrating on 7 June.”
