UK experts called in as "technical issue" shuts Jersey War Tunnels

Monday 23 October 2023

UK experts have been enlisted to help repair rain damage at the Jersey War Tunnels which forced the attraction to close early for the season.

The site team first announced on Saturday that it would have to close for the rest of the season, citing "technical issues" resulting from the bad weather.

While the season was due to end a week later on Sunday 29 October anyway, this emergency closure coincided with the start of October half-term.

To fix the damage, the War Tunnels' management team said today that they have had to call in UK specialists. The repairs are not expected to be finished this week.

General Manager Anthony Clarke said the organisation was "disappointed" to close early, adding: "Maintaining such a unique and special site does come with its challenges, and the water has beaten us on this occasion.

“We are having to call in experts from the UK to fix the damage caused by the water, and sadly, that couldn't be done within the next week. We want everyone who visits the site to have the best experience possible, which is why we took the difficult decision to close early.”

Thanking all of this season's visitors and islanders who recommend the tunnels to tourists, Mr Clarke added: "We appreciate every bit of support. We will see you all again in 2024 for the next exciting summer season."
