Teams of jobseekers are going full steam ahead to tidy up the Railway Walk from St Aubin to Corbière.
Islanders on the Back to Work scheme are working with Transport and Technical Services re-laying the footpath, cutting back hedges and sprucing up the woodland walks with new steps and handrails.
TTS Minister Deputy Eddie Noel said: “The railway walk has been in need of redevelopment for some time but staff at TTS have been deployed on other important projects and this was one project that was unlikely to be undertaken in the near future.
"By collaborating with Back to Work we are able to improve Jersey’s natural environment which will benefit the whole community.”
The work should take six months to complete.
The Social Security Assistant Minister Deputy Graham Truscott said: “Restoring the railway walk was a commitment that I made to the St Brelade electorate, so I am pleased to have instigated the project.
“I believe this initiative will benefit all Islanders, the tourist industry and the jobseekers undertaking the work, who will be gaining valuable skills and work experience to help bring them closer to securing unsubsidised employment in the future.”
