Join in hunt for local nightlife

Saturday 29 August 2015

You can go on the hunt for some of Jersey’s nightlife this weekend.

The Jersey Bat Group are organising two evening walks around the Island’s reservoirs to celebrate International Bat Night 2015.

The event is held at the end of August each year to raise awareness of the mammals which give birth to live young, form very tight social groups and fly through the night using sound to see.

15 species of bats have been recorded in Jersey – all protected both locally and internationally because of declining numbers across Europe due to habitat loss.

You can join conservationists from the local charity and learn more about our bats at Queen’s Valley Reservoir on tonight and at Val de la Mare Reservoir tomorrow as they use bat detectors to track them down in the wild.

The walks start at 7.30pm and will last around two hours.

You can sign up by emailing jerseybatgroup@yahoo.co.uk, visit the website www.jerseybatgroup.org.je or contact Henry Glynn on 07797772753.
