A "proud" Jersey girl who became the Royal Navy's highest ranking female officer is set to give a talk about her life and career later this month.

Soroptimist International Jersey have announced that Jersey-born Rear Admiral Jude Terry will be speaking at the Town Hall on 23 February.

The former Jersey College for Girls student became the first ever woman to be appointed to the rank of Admiral in the Royal Navy in January 2022 at a ceremony aboard Lord Nelson's flagship HMS Victory at Portsmouth naval base.

She is now responsible for more than 40,000 regular and reservist sailors, Royal Marines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary staff and civil servants, along with more than 30,000 cadets.

During her 26 years of service that began after graduating from the University of Dundee, Admiral Terry has occupied 18 different jobs as varied as logistics and supply officer, commander, and commodore.

She was appointed an OBE in 2017 for her services at the permanent joint headquarters.

Soroptimist International Jersey, who are hosting the event between 19:00-21:00, are a global volunteer movement that works to improve the lives of women and girls around the world.
