A new female power group is getting together to support women by doing everything from uniting young mums, to helping the elderly.
Set up by Minister for International Development, Deputy Carolyn Labey, in her role as Grouville representative, the group’s formation marks 100 years of women getting the vote in Jersey.
The Deputy is hoping to create a ‘Grouville contingent’ to take part in the upcoming Women’s March on 13 July – a celebratory parade commemorating the legacy of the strong females that helped secure rate-paying Jerseywomen over the age of 30 the vote for the first time one century ago.

But beyond that, she hopes that ‘Les Grouvelles’ – the current working title for the parish group – will have a positive influence on the community.
Deputy Labey told Express she envisaged the group becoming a hotbed for the sharing of expertise and knowledge among generations, and could also bring mothers together and provide a support network for older residents.
Further to this, the group could also enjoy social events together, or go on walks.

“Grouville has traditionally had a very strong sense of community and engagement and this informal group is a way of encouraging it and supporting one another in whichever direction we want it to go in. It is also an opportune time to launch such an initiative, as this year marks a milestone for women in Jersey,” Deputy Labey commented.
All women who live in the parish – regardless of age, status or interest – are invited to join Les Grouvelles.
They’ll be holding their first meeting tonight at 19:00 at Grouville Parish Hall, followed by another at 19:00 on Tuesday 2 July.
