Voice UK semi-finalist Moya has joined a local community choir for its second charity single.
After the success of their first charity single, Aureole Choir have recorded a cover of the iconic song ‘Something Inside So Strong’ to represent the “coming together” of local singers to raise money for local charities during the pandemic.
The new single features two soloists, local lawyer and Mum Rosie Stott, and Jersey’s "singing superstar" Moya, who made it to the semi-finals of the television talent show The Voice UK in 2019.
Commenting on the song choice, John Bowley, who set up Aureole Choir with his wife Nicki, said: “It is another magnificent song, sung by Labi Siffre in the 80s as a protest against Apartheid.
“We are fighting a very different enemy here, but the sentiment of standing strong remains resonant, and the members have really enjoyed singing it.”
The single follows their first release of the ‘Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves’ by Italian opera composer Giuseppe Verdi.
“It is very different to our first single, reflecting the diverse interests of our singers,” John said.
The choir has over 100 members, and singers can choose which repertoire they want to sing.
“About a third of that number actually perform on any one project, as they choose their preferred musical genre,” John explained.
“We are currently rehearsing a varied programme from Mozart to Rutter to the Beatles, and some retro classics like ‘Amarillo’ and ‘California Dreamin’.”
The new single, which was released on 14 May, has boosted the choir’s fundraising efforts and they are now halfway to reaching their £3000 goal for local charities Caring Cooks and Age Concern.
