Lucky escape for joyriders

Thursday 28 May 2015

One man is in hospital and another has been arrested after their night out joyriding ended in a crash.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were called out to a narrow lane on the outskirts of St Helier just before 1am and found the car on its side.

The men aged 19 and 20 had already managed to get out of the car but the police are still trying to work out which of the men had been driving when they crashed it on La Rue a Vaucluse.

Both men were taken to hospital but the 19-year old has been released and has been arrested by Police for TADA – taking and driving away and for being over the drink-drive limit and they say the 20 year-old could also face charges when he’s out of hospital.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation and police are still investigating after another accident yesterday afternoon in St Brelade.

All three emergency services were called out when a man drove a tipper truck into a granite wall on Mont Le Vaux.

The driver of the Ford Transit Tipper truck was taken to hospital with head and facial injuries after the crash that happened just before 2.30pm.

Police don’t think any other vehicle was involved.
