Bookworms beat a path to St Ouen for charity event

Saturday 02 March 2024

Hundreds of hardback novels will be given away – in exchange for a donation – at a charity book “sale”.

The event at St Ouen’s Parish Hall will take place on Saturday 9 March, two days after World Book Day, and raise money for the island branch of Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The give-away follows a recent reduction in storage space available to the branch, which raised over £17,000 through a similar event last October.

The forthcoming event will include more than 1,500 books, all described as being in "pristine" condition.

This year marks three decades since the first Guide Dog book sale was held at Trinity Parish Hall in 1994, with regular sales since then, except for during the pandemic.

The book sale will take place between 09:00 and 16:00.

Other 'Guide Dog' dates for 2024 include:

  • A paperback sale on the weekend of 26 April.
  • Channel Islands, Militaria and the books from the collection of the late David Gainsborough Roberts on Saturday 22 June.
  • The "biggest book sale" on the weekend of 28 September.
