Last-minute post on its way to islanders may not arrive in time for Christmas, after the mail plane’s latest lift-offs over were scuppered by technical difficulties and fog.
On Wednesday, the Airmail Plane was cancelled due to a “mechanical issue”.
When it attempted to reach the island this morning, it was unable to do so due to the thick fog.
Another mail plane will attempt to land tomorrow morning (Christmas Eve), carrying mail from the cancelled planes over the last two days.
Jersey Post said the team would “do our best to process all these items as quickly as possible”, but noted that, “due to the significant backlog and high volumes, we unfortunately cannot guarantee that all of the items will be delivered in time for Christmas.”
“We apologise for any inconvenience. Please also be advised that there are items arriving by boat this evening which will be processed tonight and out on delivery tomorrow.
“Our Delivery Officers will be out delivering until 16:00 on Christmas Eve and the next delivery day after that will be 29 December.”
Jersey Post is also requesting that anyone isolating with covid leave a note on their door, and do not open up to accept a package.
"Thank you for your understanding in keeping us all safe this Christmas," they said.
