Smuggler admits £300k cannabis car haul

A Cheshire man has pleaded 'guilty' to stashing £300,000 worth of cannabis in his car and attempting to smuggle it to Jersey.

Barrie Cank (46) appeared this morning in the Royal Court, where he admitted to carrying out the drugs haul.

The charge states that Cank attempted to import the cannabis resin on 22 August through Elizabeth Harbour.

Advocate David Wilson, defending, entered his client’s ‘guilty’ plea to the charge.

Crown Advocate Emma Hollywood, appearing for the prosecution, asked the Court to adjourn the matter for sentencing on 28 November.

The case will be heard by a panel of five or more Jurats, who only assemble as the ‘Superior Number’ to sentence the most serious of cases.

Royal Court Commissioner Sir Michael Birt – accompanied by Jurats Austin-Vautier and Dulake – fixed the sentencing date, and Cank was remanded in custody until then.
