Traveller 'guilty' of cocaine importation

Monday 09 December 2019

A 31-year-old man from Liverpool has admitted importing cocaine into the island.

Francis Mkatapa was found with cocaine at Jersey Airport on 3 October 2019.

He appeared in Royal Court on Friday to answer one charge of "being knowingly concerned in the fraudulent evasion of the prohibition on the importation of a controlled drug".

His lawyer, Advocate Giles Emmanuel, entered a guilty plea on his behalf.

Mkatapa will be sentenced before the Superior Number – a panel that only assembles for the most serious offences -  on 6 February at 10:00.

He has been remanded in custody in the meantime.
