Mini intensive care units donated to Animals’ Shelter

Wednesday 10 February 2021

Two mini intensive care units are being donated to the Animals’ Shelter as spring approaches to help injured, and orphaned, small creatures get back on their feet.

During 2020, the JSPCA assisted with a total of 1,641 wildlife, including many orphans who would not have survived if they had not come into the care of the Animals’ Shelter.

It's hoped that the pair of tiny incubators, as well as a recent donation of more than 100 tiny knitted nests, will help even more small animals in the challenging first quarter of 2021.

The incubators are being donated by First Choice Groceries, which also provides food for the animals in the JSPCA's care.

Praising the supplier for their support, Fundraising Manager Michelle Parker said: "They have not only helped us with this wonderful donation for purchasing the incubators, but they also provide fruit and vegetables for the animals that they are no longer able to sell. It's donations like this that make a real difference to the lives of animals in Jersey and we are so grateful for all the support we are offered."

First Choice's Branch Manager, Eszter Saly, added: "We at First Choice Groceries are all animal lovers and very passionate about supporting a good cause. JSPCA is doing an excellent job and when we were selecting our charities in 2020, before our launch, it wasn't even a question that we want to support them. "Being able to contribute towards the incubators they need and knowing that they will help lots of innocent animals warms our heart. We are extremely happy to be able to support them and we are going to support them as much as possible in the future."

The JSPCA isn't the only charity being supported by First Choice. Since setting up last year, the online retailer has given £650 to both the Animals' Shelter and Women's Refuge.
