Monster trucks coming to town

This could be the perfect antidote for those sick of Chelsea tractors clogging up the roads of Jersey – the Island is about to be invaded by Monster Trucks.

Big Pete – one of Europe’s largest monster trucks at 7.5 tons – is coming over with the Grim Reaper and will be putting on shows at the Waterfront at the beginning of next month.

But they need dozens of cars to play with and one of the organisers is hoping Islanders will have some scrap going spare.

Jason Maindonald from the Jersey Development Company said he needs 42 cars for mass destruction. The two trucks will be also be jumping over them and doing a tug of war to break a car or caravan in two.

They will be backed by the UK’s top motorcycle display team - Bolddog Lings. The semi-finalists in the 2014 Britain’s Got Talent competition will be flying 35ft in the air. The crowds will also get to see the bikes up close and to meet the riders at an interactive stand.

Mr Maindonald said: “Islanders love their cars, you’ve only got to look - there’s 140,000 cars, we love our cars, it’s just something different, it’s the shoulder months, it’ll be great fun, you can have your pic taken with the Boldog and with Big Pete and the Grim Reaper.

“I’m hoping that Islanders support it with as much enthusiasm as I have for it, and hopefully we can make it a success.”

The show is being sponsored by JT Rewards and Romerils - Mr Maindonald said he hopes it will become an annual event and wants to bring another famous stunt team – the White Helmets - over for the next one.
