Commuters are on the move and shoppers are moving in to the Esplanade car park as work is about to start on the next office building in the International Finance Centre.
Les Jardins will become a 'commuter only' car park for 525 vehicles, and 116 extra three-hour shopper parking spaces are being created on the remaining areas of the Esplanade car park.
The Esplanade car park will close completely at 20:00 tonight, reopening again on Wednesday so that the lines can be painted in the parking spaces.
There will be 190 Esplanade car park shopper spaces, 116 more short-stay parking spaces than previously on the site to help Christmas shoppers park as well as providing alternative parking options when Minden Place car park is refurbished next year.
JDC's Managing Director Lee Henry said: “Work to extend the Les Jardins car park to ensure commuters didn’t lose any parking started some time ago. We are fortunate that we had enough space left in the Esplanade car park to provide additional, much-needed shopper parking. I am very pleased that we have been able to work with the Department for Infrastructure to increase shopper car parking numbers in the area.”
DfI Minister Eddie Noel said: “I am sure the increase in shopper parking in the run up to Christmas will be very welcome in this busy town car park.”
