Two men living in a flat on St Saviour's road have their neighbour to thank this morning for calling out firefighters to tackle a fire in their home.
The worried neighbour made the emergency call just before 6 am after smelling smoke coming from their flat.
When firefighters first arrived they couldn't see any immediate sign of fire but then spotted a small blaze in the kitchen / living room area.
The men were evacuated while crews wearing breathing apparatus dealt with the fire and used a fan to get rid of the smoke.
Both men were treated by paramedics on the scene for smoke inhalation.
Watch Commander Richard Ryan said: “Thankfully a neighbour was able to raise the alarm that a fire was occurring within the property. However, a well maintained working smoking alarm can give you early warning and could save your life.”
