U18s music festival launched to encourage young to celebrate Liberation

Wednesday 26 April 2023

A new under-18s-only music event will be taking place in the Royal Square next month as part of a plan to help "re-engage" young people in Liberation Day celebrations.

Taking place on Friday 5 May, the 'Motion Takeover' is a spin-off forming part of the 'Lib in the Square Festival'.

The line-up for the event includes Radio 1 stars Rickie and Melvin, as well as one of the biggest names in house music, Jess Bays.

The event is being co-organised by Warren Le Sueur, who is also responsible for Weekender, Lib in the Square and Out-There Festivals.

He said: "Jersey's young people deserve exciting, engaging events that connect them to their local culture and heritage.

“By incorporating Liberation Day into our Motion Takeover event, we're providing an opportunity for Jersey’s young people to come together and celebrate their island's history while enjoying world-class music in a safe environment."
