Jersey police say they won’t be looking for mystical help from the Other Side in finding Islanders who have gone missing.
British police have been told they shouldn’t automatically rule out calling on the perceptive powers of psychics when searching for people, but the local Force say they’ve never relied on anyone’s extrasensory powers.
A Jersey police spokesperson said: “We haven’t used any psychics here, although are aware that other forces may do so if they felt it was required.
“But we’ve never had the need or been offered the services of one.”
The new police policy document is part of the College of Policing’s consultation to help ensure cases of missing people are investigated effectively.
The detailed document notes that: “High-profile missing person investigations nearly always attract the interest of psychics and others, such as witches and clairvoyants, stating that they possess extrasensory perception.
“Any information received from psychics should be evaluated in the context of the case, and should never become a distraction to the overall investigation and search strategy unless it can be verified.
"These contacts usually come from well-intentioned people, but the motive of the individual should always be ascertained, especially where financial gain is included.
"The person's methods should be asked for, including the circumstances in which they received the information and any accredited successes."
The consultation runs until 9 October.
