Noisy Sunday starts in Sand Street

Sunday 22 May 2016

If you live near Sand Street car park and like a lie in on a Sunday morning, you might want to invest in a pair of ear plugs.

Work is being done to the entrance of the multi-storey on a couple of Sundays over the next few months as part of its five-month long refurbishment and the Department for Infrastructure say it could get noisy.

They say this Sunday the car park will still be open but there may be noise and a bit of a wait.

You won't be able to get into the car park at all between 8 am and 8 pm on Sunday 12 June or on Sunday 24 July but cars parked there will be able to get out.

Work has already started in phases to improve the parking in the multi-storey and make more space for parents, disabled drivers and cyclists.

The work on Floors 12 and 13 has already been completed.

More undercover bicycle parking is being created and the amount and size of the parent and child parking bays will be doubled from four to eight, all located together on the fourth floor.

The disabled parking bays will also be made bigger, the floors will be repaired, a new lighting system will be installed and the external safety fence panels will be replaced.

Extra shopper parking spaces are being provided in both Pier Road car park and the Esplanade.
