Nude Food owners rack up £20k in unpaid tax

Thursday 29 February 2024

The owners of a popular Jersey restaurant chain which folded suddenly last November have been ordered to repay debts of around £60,000 – including nearly £20,000 in overdue ITIS contributions.

The Nude Food owners, who previously operated sites at La Pulente and La Haule slipway, have been called to appear in the Petty Debts Court twice this month.

If they fail to pay, assets could be seized and sold off.

The largest of the debts is almost £20,000 in ITIS payments owed by Nude Food Dunes Ltd for the months of September, October and November 2023.

Following their failure to appear in court yesterday, Assistant Magistrate Adam Clarke ordered the company to pay the Treasurer of the States a total of £19,628.24.

The Court also authorised the Treasurer of the States to have property and goods relating to Nude Food Dunes Ltd seized to make these payments.

Other debts extend to other local businesses including fisheries and alcohol suppliers for accounts at the end of last year.

Nude Food Ltd was also ordered to pay over £12,000 to DRF Limited trading as Dunn-Ross Fisheries on Wednesday.

Earlier this month, the company was ordered to pay almost £15,000 to Love Wine, and sums of £2,700 and £9,700 to Randalls, overdue from late last year.

The total debts across both Nude Food limited companies therefore stand at around £60,000.

Nude Food, founded by Lucy Morris and Jackson Lowe, operated Nude Food in town, Nude Beach at St Aubin which opened in 2018, and Nude Dunes which opened at La Pulente in June this year after a lengthy project to convert a former public toilet block.

The high-profile hospitality business ceased trading several months ago, saying that "tireless" efforts to secure further investment into the business had been unsuccessful.
