The Infrastructure Department raised nearly £150K this weekend as J002, along with other distinctive number plates, went under the hammer.
The event at Highlands College last Saturday saw 58 number plates go up for auction and raised a total of £148,090, more than was raised when the Department last did an auction in October 2016.
The recognisable plate ‘J002’ sold for £22,000, making it the most expensive sale of the day. Whilst registration JSY171 took second place and was sold for £5,000.
Commenting on the success of the auction, Deputy Eddie Noel, Minister for Infrastructure said: “Last year we held two auctions, one in June and the other in October. This auction, which is the only one we are doing this year, raised more than the one in October but less than the one last June.
“The income will be used for transport related projects. I would also like to remind anyone who didn’t make the highest bids on Saturday, that we do sell 5 or 6 digit numbers over the counter for £250 and we also have batch releases of 4 digit numbers for £2,500.”
